The G-Class luxury four-wheel drive SUV, with roots in experimental military vehicle designs, is sold as a variation of the Peugeot, with Peugeot mechanicals.
The Mercedes G-Class is an icon from a bygone era, but the model's popularity will reportedly ensure it will remain in production for years to come.
According to Automobilwoche, Daimler and Magna Steyr are close to signing an agreement that will keep the legendary off-roader around until 2016. There's even word that the contract could be renewed to go as far as 2020.
Regardless of the final terms, Mercedes is working on an updated model that will have a significantly improved interior with a new instrument cluster, a revised center stack and an updated COMAND system. We can also expect a new G63 or G65 to replace the G55 AMG.
